Kumano Kodo (Ohechi route)

Ohechi is the trail starting with Tanabe city to Nachikatsuura town, along the shore line of the Kii Peninsula.

It was said that the trail was mainly loved by writers and poets to take longer days to enjoy waking and to get inspirations walking along the scenic spots.

But a recent study shows that the trail was also used by many pilgrims of Kannon believers carrying miniature models of 33 Kannons. Also, there used to be many accommodations to accept them. The locals used to welcome them and worshiped the Kannon that the pilgrims had and brought. In some places, there are stone monuments commemorating the record that they accepted and welcomed 1,000 pilgrims.

Unfortunately, many parts of the Ohechi route was overlapped with the national road or cut by railway tracks but you will be able to find many interesting stories walking with the guide.

Since most of the trails (and the roads) are not so difficult, this route will be suitable for those who want to walk easy way listening to the stories along the way.
